Wedding String Quartet at Saltmarshe Hall | Georgina & Peter

There are few wedding venues that combine elegance, exclusivity and beautiful countryside quite like Saltmarshe Hall. Nestled in the East Yorkshire countryside, just a short drive from York, the Hall has become one of the region's most sought-after country house wedding venues, offering exclusive use, stunning gardens and beautifully restored interiors.

A Traditional Church Ceremony at St Peter's Church, LaxtonA Traditional Church Ceremony at St Peter's Church, Laxton

The day began with a beautiful ceremony at St Peter's Church in Laxton, a peaceful village church just a few minutes from Saltmarshe Hall.

For the ceremony, our cellist Fionnuala was invited to perform as a solo musician, creating a wonderfully intimate atmosphere as guests arrived, accompanying the bridal entrance, the signing of the register and the joyful exit as the newlyweds began married life together.

Historic churches have a unique warmth and acoustic quality that suit live string music perfectly. A solo cello can fill the space beautifully, adding emotion and elegance without overwhelming the ceremony.

The bride walked down the aisle to "My lovely Horse" - a truly unique and stunning arrangement by the groom himself (Cello, Violin and Organ!)

Celebrations at Saltmarshe Hall

Following the ceremony, guests made their way to the stunning Saltmarshe Hall for the drinks reception.

Here, the rest of The Fern Quartet joined Fionnuala to perform as a full string quartet while guests enjoyed drinks and explored the beautiful grounds.

One of the reasons we love performing at Saltmarshe Hall is the relaxed atmosphere it creates. The elegant reception rooms, landscaped gardens and exclusive-use setting allow guests to enjoy live music while catching up with family and friends, creating the perfect transition between the ceremony and wedding breakfast.

From Bridgerton vibes to movie classics...with a few Scottish tunes thrown in for the Kilt-wearing guests.

Such a special day and we were honoured to be a part of it.

Why a String Quartet is Perfect for Saltmarshe Hall

Saltmarshe Hall naturally lends itself to live music.

Whether couples choose to marry in one of the Hall's licensed ceremony rooms or, like Georgina and Peter, celebrate in a nearby church before returning to the estate, a string quartet provides an elegant soundtrack that complements the venue beautifully.

Many of our couples choose us for:

  • Guest arrival music

  • Church ceremonies

  • Drinks receptions

  • Wedding breakfasts

  • A personalised selection of classical favourites and contemporary love songs

The flexibility of live musicians means every performance is tailored to the couple and their day.

From Solo Cello to Full String Quartet

One of our favourite aspects of Georgina and Peter's wedding was being able to provide two different musical experiences.

Beginning with the rich, expressive sound of solo cello during the church ceremony before expanding into the full quartet for the celebrations at Saltmarshe Hall created a wonderful progression throughout the day.

It's a lovely option for couples marrying in a nearby church who want elegant live music at every stage of their wedding without needing the full quartet present all day.
